Why Journaling Is a Game Changer
Founder's Edit
I started journaling because I couldn't sleep, and I kept getting disoriented in the middle of ordinary daily tasks, losing the thread of what I was doing and why. As a kid I always wrote in my journal and it was a habit I wanted to get back to. But this time not just writing down my days, more structured, both thoughts, about the day but also concerns, affirmations and goals.
One year and two full notebooks later, I haven't stopped.
It gave my thoughts somewhere to go
Before journaling, everything stayed in my head. Every worry looped, every idea competed for space with every worry. The Swedish author Björn Natthiko once said that "you are not your thoughts", and I believe that to be very true. Once a thought is on paper, it stops needing to be carried. Writing it down sets your thoughts in perspective and makes it much easier to tell what's actually real and what was just noise passing through.
It made my decisions clearer
There's a kind of honesty that only shows up on a blank page. I can talk myself into almost anything in my own head. I can't do that on paper in the same way. You can't deny the written word the way you can lie to yourself silently. When I write out a decision I'm circling, whether it's about the business, the studio, or something personal, the right answer tends to surface faster than I expect.
It documented my growth, my patterns, and my weaknesses
I can open a page from a year ago and see exactly where I was; what scared me then that doesn't scare me now, what I thought I needed that I've since let go of. But it also shows me the patterns I keep repeating, the ones that aren't serving me. That's not always comfortable. It's very honest and refreshing.
It lowered my stress before it built up into something bigger
Five minutes, most days. That's the whole commitment. I know the optimal time would probably be in the morning but with my already early mornings, at night in bed after my wellness routine, works the best. Those five minutes catch things early, before a small frustration turns into a monster by the end of the week. Journaling works less like a cure and more like maintenance. Small and steady, the way real change usually happens.
It reconnected me to what actually matters to me
Journaling is the one space that's entirely mine. Not what everyone else is doing, or their opinion on what I should do next. Just what I want and need. Writing down my vision, my goals, and my affirmations keeps me honest about my own intentions, whether that means staying the course or deliberately taking a detour.
Where I landed
Journaling isn't fixing my life, but it's a massive tool for showing me my life, clearly, every single day, including the parts I'd rather not look at. And it keeps reminding me to be grateful for each one, because every day has something in it worth noticing.
If you've been curious about starting, my advice is this: don't overthink the format. A notebook and five minutes a day just for you, will do more than the perfect system you never start.
This is exactly the kind of better choices I want to emphasize and being part of Mywellniverse.
With love,
Nikie
